Fresh New Zealand-made Italian cheeses now available all week Massimo’s locally made Italian cheeses enter gourmet stores and selected supermarkets
Massimo came to New Zealand on holiday from Puglia in 2004 and was surprised at the lack of fresh mozzarella, in a country with such high quality dairy.
In 2010, Massimo & Marina decided to come back (after a 3 year apprentice ship in Italy), to settle here and fill the gap in the market making Burrata, Mozzarella, Scamorza and Ricotta, under the brand name Italian Cheeses. It was very popular when he first sold it at La Cigale market in Auckland. Many people told him they loved our ricotta and when they tried to buy similar in the supermarket, ended up coming back for his products as it wasn’t the same. This cheese went on to win gold in the ricotta category at the Cuisine NZ Champions of Cheese Awards in 2012.
And it’s not the only awarded cheese in the range. The buffalo mozzarella, burrata, provolone, caciocavallo, cacioricotta goat and others have all since won awards and accolades. With expansion of new products and increasing demand we have created a retail brand – Massimo’s Italian Cheeses. We pride ourselves on delivering fresh and high standard quality product every week to each store. Farm, production room, store – is our way to ensure freshness.
